Never Enough

Last year I reviewed SIX60’s single, The Greatest, labelling it “a fantastic piece of pop confection.”

Well they’re back with another remarkably catchy track which has made me hanker for an album.

For a band that has been around for some time (they formed in 2008) they are still quite new to me and I’m not sure why they aren’t household names in Australia as they are in their own country, New Zealand.

Never Enough is a tremendous song that intrigues with each listen. From its unusual horn-like beginning through to its funky bass lines and catchy chorus and on to the rhythmic syncopation of the vamped guitars there is always variety.

The band also know how to craft a song to take the listener on a journey. They cleverly use pauses and then release the tension to let the track flow.

The other important ingredient is space in the mix. The vocals are never crowded out.

SIX60 have released three albums to date and the latest one reached number 8 on the ARIA Album Chart.

It also remained at #1 on the NZ chart for 12 weeks. I’ll try to get hold of a copy to review it in the coming weeks.

These chaps are good musicians and their reputation is growing here to match that of their home fan base.

Apparently their recent sold out Australian tour was brilliant and I hope that we’ll see them grace our shores for a much longer stay when the world finally emerges from its enforced hibernation due to coronavirus.
