NBN Co is to establish a Business NBN Satellite Service for Government users, regional enterprises and medium-to-large businesses.
A new unit providing the service will be led by a member of NBN Co’s senior management team, Gavin Williams (pictured) who will have the title of Chief Development Officer, Regional and Remote, and report directly to Chief Executive of NBN Co, Stephen Rue.
Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts, Paul Fletcher said regional Australia was the backbone of the economy and the rollout of NBN in regional areas was almost complete.
“Gavin Williams’ appointment is an important signal to regional and rural communities that NBN Co will continue to improve its services so that all Australians can maximise the immense social and economic benefits that high-speed broadband can provide,” Mr Fletcher said.
Minister for Regional Services, Decentralisation and Local Government, Mark Coulton said the initiative was good news for the regions and also addressed a recommendation from the 2018 Regional Telecommunications Review to establish a dedicated unit focused on delivering NBN benefits for regional Australians.
“By bringing its regionally focused business areas together, NBN Co is well placed to continue prioritising service delivery and product development to meet the needs of regional consumers and businesses,” Mr Coulton said.
He said more than 88 per cent of Australians were now able to connect to NBN high-speed broadband, with the company remaining on track to complete its build phase next year.
