The Department of Communications and the Arts is to fund a series of traveling art and cultural exhibitions from three national institutions in Canberra to rural and regional communities around the nation.
Minister for the Arts, Senator Mitch Fifield said the funding, from the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach (NCITO), would allow the institutions to take a range of arts and culture experiences to audiences across regional and remote Australia.
The Minister said this would include portraiture exhibitions that captured and explored the personal stories of individuals and groups, a collection of Indigenous artworks, and a showcase of art deco works by Australian artists.
“The funding ensures that Australians living in regional and remote areas can enjoy a range of high quality exhibitions from our national collection,” Senator Fifield said.
“Our national collection includes an incredible breadth of art forms, from photography, painting and cartoons to lithographs and television props.”
He said the exhibitions drawn together for touring showed the history, creativity and diversity of Australia ad included Happy Birthday Play School: Celebrating 50 Years! from the National Museum of Australia; The National Picture: The Art of Tasmania’s Black War and The Ned Kelly Series from the National Gallery of Australia and George French Angas from the National Library of Australia
Arthur Boyd: Landscape of the Soul would also tour from the Bundanon Trust;
