Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Stirling Hinchliffe has announced the names of 165 multicultural events that are set to receive funding through the Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program.

African Festival Townsville, Brisbane’s Luminous Lantern Parade, the Burdekin Cultural Fair, the Toowoomba Languages and Cultures Festival and the Mareeba Multicultural Festival are among the celebrations that will share in more than $1.3 million funding.

Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Stirling Hinchliffe urged all Queenslanders to get along to as many of the events as they could and celebrate the State’s cultural diversity.

“I’m delighted that 165 events in 2020 will receive funding – that’s 13 more celebrations for Queenslanders to enjoy than in 2019,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“There are 21 events receiving funding for the first time – Queensland’s diversity is truly one of our greatest strengths and is certainly worth celebrating.”

He said the cultural events and festivals helped to promote greater cross-cultural awareness, connectedness and community participation.

“Through food, dance, music and traditions these events give us a better understanding of who we are, and play an important role in helping to build an inclusive, harmonious and united Queensland,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

The 165 events will receive grants ranging from $3,000 to $20,000 in 2020.
