Accor has opened the doors to Australia’s first Mövenpick hotel, Mövenpick Hotel Hobart, which stands on one of the city’s principal heritage streetscapes near the waterfront.

International hotel brand, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, is finally represented in Australia with the opening of the Mövenpick Hotel Hobart in Tasmania.

Last week, Accor opened the doors to the new hotel, which stands on one of Hobart’s principal heritage streetscapes near the city’s abounding historical and bustling waterfront. This is where you will be transported to surroundings that have a lively, renowned culinary culture.

Take a short stroll, and be taken back in time, at the historical Salamanca precinct, which is home to one of Australia’s best-known art and craft markets. Within an easy drive, many more memorable moments await, such as experiencing the extraordinary world of MONA, enjoying freshly shucked oysters with award-winning wines, exploring the rich history of Tasmania’s convict past or simply soaking up Hobart’s spectacular scenery.

Why not be among the first to experience Mövenpick Hotel Hobart by taking advantage of its opening special from $325 per night.

Many of the rooms with Tasmanian nature design-inspired boutique interiors provide breathtaking panoramic views, connecting with Hobart’s spectacular natural setting.

Before you go exploring, discover what the 221-room contemporary hotel has to offer. It has Tasmanian nature design-inspired boutique interiors, fine food and wine experiences at Tesoro Modern Italian restaurant, a daily chocolate hour and an assortment of other Mövenpick brand signature offerings.

The latter is one experience I can recommend – if memories of attending the happy chocolate hour at the Mövenpick Hotel Sukhumvit 15 Bangkok – are anything to go by. It’s an ideal indulgence for those with a ‘sweet’ tooth!

There’s a range of signature Mövenpick brand experiences on offer at Mövenpick Hotel Hobart including:

  • Chocolate hour: with the brand’s Swiss origins being famous for chocolate, Mövenpick Hotel Hobart dedicates one hour each afternoon to the ‘chocolate hour’. Between 4pm and 5pm daily, a complimentary sweet treat, such as an éclair, brownie or truffle, is served with any chocolate-inspired cocktail, mocktail or affogato purchase. The hotel also offers an indulgent assortment of chocolate tasting packages available at any time of the day
  • Healthy shots: energy shots blended with juice or yoghurt and fresh fruit and vegetables will be offered to guests at breakfast

  • Go healthy: a range of tasty and nutritious dishes will be offered at breakfast, including grab-and-go small portions, helping guests make healthy choices
  • Mövenpick products: as the only hotel brand with its own branded range of fine food and beverages, hotel guests will be able to experience Mövenpick’s culinary heritage first hand with ice cream
  • Wi-Fi everywhere: free wireless high-speed internet is available.

Accor Pacific CEO, Simon McGrath, said: “Mövenpick Hotel Hobart transcends the traditional hotel experience by masterfully blending the brand’s Swiss heritage with a premium hospitality experience. We’re so excited to share this stunning property with guests visiting Hobart from other parts of Tasmania and Australia”.
“Accor is planning more locations for Mövenpick across the Pacific and we believe this premium brand will quickly gain recognition for its culinary and service excellence.”

Tasmania’s capital offers a blend of splendid heritage and lifestyle. Explore the converted colonial warehouses of Salamanca and on Saturdays go to Tasmania’s most visited attraction, the Salamanca Market.

A locally-inspired colour palette with wall panelling, furniture, fabrics and shade were carefully curated to ensure they reflected the rhythm, patterns, movement and tonal qualities of the Tasmanian landscape.

From here it’s a short walk to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery or a short ferry sride takes you to MONA, one of the world’s largest private collections of art and antiquities.

If you head west, the road follows the beautiful River Derwent through the Derwent Valley and on to the grandeur of Lake St Clair in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.

To the east are the wineries of the Coal River Valley and further on is Tasman National Park, with its spectacular coastline and historic convict sites.

The clear waters and stunning coastline of Bruny Island and the beauty of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel are south of Hobart. An alternative route passes through the Huon Valley alongside the tranquil Huon River and on to the rugged Hartz Mountains National Park.

Mövenpick is part of Accor, with inventive culinary excellence at its heart that continues to reflect the brand’s Swiss heritage and culinary legacy, while not compromising on authenticity and quality.
