We all love celebrations, and the 30th birthday party next month for AQWA – The Aquarium of Western Australia – promises to be a memorable occasion.
AQWA celebrates three decades as one of Perth’s most iconic tourist destinations and home to hundreds of species of marine life from the coastline of Western Australia.
With more than 7,080,093 people surging through AQWA’s gates over the 30 years, Perth’s leading tourist attraction continuously amazes visitors with an incredible underwater journey through the icy waters of coral reefs and colourful marine creatures.
Another amazing feature is its location: AQWA is positioned in one of Perth’s most picturesque sites – right on the Hillarys Boat Harbour.
To celebrate the big birthday, AQWA will host a week of programs and events during the school holidays from 13-20 April. Every day from 11.30am-2.30pm there will be free face painting, kid’s activities, roving performers and heaps more. Plus, all children get a free slushy!
As a special treat, on April 19 kids will also have the opportunity to sleep under the sea with the return of the aquarium’s unique and playful – AQWA’s shark sleepover event. This is when the kids can dine and sleep in the heart of AQWA (of course, under adult supervision) for a night of incredible fun.
So, is there anything for adults? They are invited to a series of AQWA by nights – adults-only events such as an intimate dine beneath the sea (fine dining in the underwater tunnel), Matso’s progressive beer tasting through the aquarium and more!
Program highlights
AQWA by night – adults-only events include:
- Under the sea – progressive beer tasting – 18 April 2018
- Dine beneath the sea – 20 April 2018
A note: bookings are required.
More than just an aquarium, AQWA also offers a series of unique adventures including two scuba programs and three snorkelling experiences and it hosts several events throughout the year to suit people of all ages.
Dedicated to inspiring wonder and respect for marine environments through education, AQWA has become a leader in its field, undergoing a number of research and rehabilitation programs with the aim of preserving and protecting WA’s pristine coastline and growing coral within the aquarium.
AQWA is a privately run company dedicated to generating wonder and respect for the marine life of Western Australia.
Why not go on an underwater journey to discover one of the world’s largest living coral reef exhibits and incredible marine life of WA. From icy waters to tropical wonderlands, you’ll explore five discovery zones including the great southern coast, Shipwreck coast, Perth coast, far north coast and Marmion Marine Park.
From sharks and stingrays to giant sea turtles, the whole family will be enthralled as they come face-to-fin with all manner of majestic sea creatures. To make the journey even more exciting they can jump on a 98-metre-long moving walkway (the largest in Australia) that transports them through the underwater tunnel showcasing the vibrant life of a coral reef, bursting with colourful native creatures and intriguing coral formations.
So, help celebrate AQWA’s milestone birthday and embark on a journey from the icy waters of the Southern Ocean to the tropical wonderland of coral reefs in the far north.
To be a winner, you have to be there.
