A new high-speed patrol boat is under construction for Gold Coast Water Police.
Minister for Police, Mark Ryan said the purpose-built, 12-metre monohull patrol boat would enhance operational capability.
“The new capability will support the great work Water Police on the Gold Coast do in partnership with many other Agencies,” Mr Ryan said.
He said the new vessel would complement two rigid-hull inflatable boats and two jet skis currently utilised by police on the Gold Coast.
Member of Parliament for Gaven, Meaghan Scanlon said safety on the Gold Coast’s waterways was of paramount importance.
“It’s great to see Gold Coast Water Police getting the support and the allocation of funding it needs to keep the community safe,” Ms Scanlon said.
“The Water Police vessels being rolled out across Queensland are world class.”
She said the Gold Coast Water Police was closely involved in the design of all the vessels supplied to ensure it received the capabilities needed when officers were out on the water.
“This vessel under construction will be a great new asset for community safety on the Gold Coast,” Ms Scanlon said.
