Missing police dog leaves heartbreak behind

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has scaled back the search for Police Dog (PD), Quizz after he went missing early on 11 January.

Senior Constable for the QPS and PD Quizz’s handler, Dan McGreevy said police had been overwhelmed by the support provided by the community throughout the search operation.

“It will remain ongoing in a reduced capacity,” Senior Constable McGreevy said.

“My family and I are deeply appreciative of everyone who has given their time to help find our best friend,” he said.

“He is much loved and is deeply missed.

“We are heartbroken and miss him every moment he’s not with us.”

Senior Constable McGreevy said it had been his honour to serve with Quizz (pictured) and remained hopeful that he would be found “so we can continue to help make our community a safer place together”.

He said a reward would still be considered for anyone who had information that assisted in locating PD Quizz.

PD Quizz is described as a three-year-old German Shepherd with a black and tan hide, wearing a tracking harness and long lead.

Senior Constable McGreevy said Quizz went missing after the dog’s lead slipped through his hands while tracking an offender through dense bushland off Greenwood Village Road at Redbank Plains.

Police are appealing for anyone with CCTV in the area to review their footage for any sign of PD Quizz.

They are also appealing to motorists who may have driven in the Redbank Plains area since 3am on 11 January to review their dash-cam vision for potential sightings.
