The Royal Australian Mint has partnered with the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) to recognise Australian students demonstrating the Olympic spirit through leadership and positive change in their communities.

With just over 200 days until the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the Mint has marked its involvement in the Olympic Committee’s ‘Change-Makers’ program with the striking of 26 custom gold medallions for the winning students, who were selected by a panel of Olympians.

“More than 1,000 year 11 and 12 students from every State and Territory were nominated by their school for making a positive impact through sport in their community, attending state-based Olympic Change-Maker summits to share their journeys and learn from Olympians,” the Mint said in a statement.

Minister responsible for the Mint, Michael Sukkar said it had a long history of celebrating Australian achievement.

“The Mint tells important Australian stories,” Mr Sukkar said.

“Its medallions have an enduring value and long-lasting quality that is shared through generations,” he said.

“It is again working hard to create meaningful and popular products in the lead up to the Tokyo 2020 Games.”

He said the 26 students would attend the National Olympic Change-Maker Summit to be held in Canberra.

Volunteer basketball coach at the Disability Trust, Tyson Bricknell was one of the students named as an Olympic Change-Maker.

“Being able to share this experience and learn from Olympians and students around the country is just incredible – I could barely sleep all week I was so excited,” Tyson said.

“The idea of being able to make a change, whether it’s for one person or an entire community, is so inspiring,” he said.

The list of Change-Maker winners can be accessed at the AOC website at this PS News link.
