A new Council to inform the Government on arts policy has been established by the Minister for the Arts and Community Events, Gordon Ramsay, as an advisory body.
The new Minister’s Creative Council (MCC) will also facilitate strong communication between Canberra’s creative communities and the Government.
Announcing the MCC, Mr Ramsay said it would comprise up to 12 members of Canberra’s arts community, who will have demonstrated experience in the arts.
“Expressions of interest are now being sought from members of the arts community to join the Council, with final appointments to be made by the Minister after a selection process,” Mr Ramsay said.
“The establishment of the Minister’s Creative Council will contribute to the ongoing growth of Canberra’s flourishing arts sector.”
He said he wanted the Council’s composition to be diverse and multidisciplinary to ensure that advice and insights from across the broad and varied arts community were captured.
“Canberra is home to many artists, both established and emerging in their fields,” Mr Ramsay said.
“With our connection to both local arts communities and the national and international arts sector through our national institutions, we have a real opportunity to contribute to the creative life of Australia.”
The Minister said the MCC would reflect the diversity of Canberra’s arts sector, across all levels of practice and participation, and would work to generate great ideas for the arts in Canberra.
Expressions of interest for membership of the MCC are open until 24 August with applications limited to people with an ACT Government Digital account.
