By Chris Lanzon, Independent 2020.
Sydney born singer /songwriter/producer Chris Lanzon released this EP early this year and now he’s produced a short film to go with it.
Lanzon is a man of many talents for he’s not only written and produced his EP but he’s also self-directed and edited the film with the assistance of his close friend and videographer/co-editor Andii (Andrew Celements).
The EP lends itself to be filmed because the songs tell the story of a boy who lost his inner light, his energy and spark, and the journey of self-discovery he embarks upon to find truth and inner peace.
As Lanzon explains, “Sometimes we have to lose ourselves in order to find ourselves, and in those darkest times we must remember that it is not the end, there is always hope.”
The concept of losing yourself to rediscover who you are is not new, and many of us have gone through it, but turning the songs into a short film and presenting both the film and EP as a complete artistic package is something a bit unusual.
The film takes us on a 24 minute journey through peaceful coastal scenes and on to desert landscapes where we watch as the protagonist struggles with painful memories finally ending with the film clip for the final song on the EP, Diamonds On The Water.
In effect what Chris and Andii have done is to produce six music videos that can be viewed individually but can also be seen in their entirety as a short film with a unifying theme.
It’s an interesting and creative approach that I can’t remember too many artists attempting before.
You can view the film on Vevo. Look up “Melancholy” Short Film.
Lanzon produced the EP in his bedroom studio.
He wrote four of the six songs himself and did a couple of co-writes with Demi Louise for Still and Diamonds On The Water.
This EP is the first of Lanzon’ work that I’ve heard and I like it.
He has a very good voice and his songs are thoughtful.
Lanzon’s someone to look out for.
