WA’s Office of Medical Research and Innovation has established a new Distinguished Fellows Program to offer three five-year fellowships to experts from anywhere in the world to come to Western Australia and join in a world-leading research program.
Announced by the Minister for Medical Research, Stephen Dawson, the $5 million program from the Future Health Research and Innovation Fund (FHRI) is aimed at encouraging health and medical researchers to relocate to WA.
Mr Dawson said the fellowships could be available to any internationally recognised academic and/or clinical researchers in all disciplines – medical, allied health, nursing and midwifery – with experienced associate professors or recently tenured professors welcome.
“This is an amazing opportunity for leading health and medical researchers to relocate to Western Australia,” Mr Dawson said.
“We are offering a generous package to the successful candidates including support for relocation costs,” he said.
“We have a highly skilled, collaborative health and medical research workforce, and technologically advanced hospitals such as Fiona Stanley Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital.”
The Minister said WA researchers were also supported by outstanding research organisations including five universities – three of which have a medical school – and highly-regarded medical research institutes.
He said at least one of the researches must be aligned with a FHRI Fund focus area – Aboriginal, rural and remote health, burden of diseases, and living with COVID-19 and long COVID.
“One fellowship will be specifically dedicated to research in mental health,” he said.
More information about the fellowships, including guidelines and conditions, an Application Form and Minimum Data Form can be accessed on the FHRI Fund’s webpage at this PS News link.
