By Meg Mac, Universal Music Australia/EMI 2022.
Another great album from my mate Neil who’s racking up the by-lines.
Megan McInerney aka Meg Mac is an Australian singer-songwriter and Matter of Time is her third album.
Meg was educated in Sydney at the McDonald Performing Arts College then moved to Perth gaining a degree from the WA Academy of Performing Arts.
She submitted one of her songs, Known Better, to Triple J Unearthed and was featured as Unearthed Artist of The week in 2013 and Unearthed Artist of The Year 2014.
She also achieved recognition from Rolling Stone being named as Best New Talent 2015.
Her debut album Low Blows was released in 2017 and entered the ARIA chart at number two.
Her second studio album, Hope, contained the single Give Me My Name Back, which was a song for all people who had suffered emotional and physical abuse, a topic that she examines further in Matter of Time.
The first track on the album, Is It Worth being Sad, was also the first single from the album and Meg stated that she was running away from her troubles when she wrote it. She says that the song was the first step to sorting out her life, although she didn’t know it at the time.
Matter of Time is intimate and confessional and raw emotion is transmitted with every utterance and chord.
She states in the liner notes to the album that “I ran away to make this album. I took my time to write every song and to find the right people to work with.”
The outcome of her efforts is an outstanding album that should feature in the ARIA awards.
Meg Mac has released five singles from the 10-track album, Is It Worth Being Sad, On Your Mind, Only Love, Letter, and Understand and each of them is fantastic.
Meg Mac is one to watch and Matter of Time rates as another of my favourite discs for the year.
