More than 85 per cent of the Auditor General’s recommendations relating to the Maltese Public Service have been implemented, Principal Permanent Secretary, Tony Sultana says.
Speaking after a meeting with Auditor General, Charles Deguara, Mr Sultana (pictured) said that from 45 audits carried out by the National Audit Office, 537 recommendations were issued, of which the Public Service accepted 527.
“These led to the formulation of 1,171 actions, of which 85.4 per cent were carried out,” Mr Sultana said.
“This result also marks an increase of 450 actions on last year’s figures, highlighting the fact that the internal mechanisms and structures of the Public Service are working and even improving their results.”
He said improvements had also been made in relations with Government employees, with 12 new collective agreements signed in the past five months.
“We are giving importance to this aspect because these collective agreements not only improve the workers’ conditions, but also incentivise and assist employees to improve their skills and facilitate career progress,” Mr Sultana said.
“While there is still room for improvement, each side needs to understand the needs of the other, and to work in the same direction toward the same common goal,” he said.
“It is in the interest of each and every public officer.”
