Malaysia’s Public Servants have been urged to remain professional and to stay away from partisan politics in the midst of the Government crisis.

The Pakatan Harapan-led Government collapsed after 37 MPs withdrew their support, leading to Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad announcing his resignation.

In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Department reminded Public Servants of their responsibility towards the people in carrying out their duties.

“The service that you provide must follow the principles of ‘best delivery’ that is in line with the slogan ‘I who carry out the trust’,” the Department said.

“Managing change is a difficult and challenging task, but with the leadership of the Chief Secretary to the Government and all 1.6 million Civil Servants, the responsibilities have to be carried out with complete trust, accountability, efficiency, and without errors and negative perception.”

The Department said Public Servants must always be equipped with a suitable communication and interaction method for dealing with whatever changes were brought by a new team later.

“Civil Servants must always have endurance and adaptability in executing their responsibilities in order to fulfil the expectation of the people, as stakeholders of the Government,” the Department said.

“Stay away from politics to uphold the integrity and professionalism of the Civil Service, and provide the best service to all without siding with any group.”

The King of Malaysia, Abdullah of Pahang, has appointed the little-known Muhyiddin Yassin as Dr Mahathir’s replacement.
