Malaysia’s two million Public Servants are to get a bonus payment of RM500 ($A159) to help them celebrate the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
In a statement, Prime Minister, Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the one-off Aidilfitri payment would be credited on 25 April together with the April salary.
He said the assistance would also apply to contract and temporary staff, as well as appointments under the MySTEP short-term employment program.
Public Service pensioners would receive a payment of RM250 ($A79).
Dato Sri Ismail said the Government had allocated a total of RM923 million ($A293 million) for the special aid.
“This aid is given in appreciation of the contributions and sacrifices made by the Civil Servants in providing services to Malaysia,” Dato Sri Ismail said.
He hoped the early announcement of the Aidilfitri would help officers and pensioners to better plan their preparations for the end of Ramadan.
Asked later, the Prime Minister confirmed that the payment would go to Public Servants who had not become fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
“However, even though it is not compulsory, it is still my hope that all members of the Malaysian family complete their COVID-19 vaccination for the wellbeing of the nation,” he said.
