Malaysian Public Servants have been promised “improvements in their remuneration package” in the country’s 2020 Budget.
Minister for Finance, Lim Guan Eng said among the improvements will be a Cost of Living Allowance, which will be raised by MYR50 (A$17.60) per month next year.
Mr Lim said Government workers with at least 15 years of service who had accumulated annual leave would be allowed to take up to 75 days of it as pay.
“The Public Sector Home Financing Board will offer free personal accident insurance of up to MYR100,000 [A$35,200] coverage for two years to new Government housing loan borrowers,” Mr Lim said.
“In addition, to help relieve the burden of dependants to Civil Servants who have died in service, the Government will improve current benefits such as the introduction of an ex-gratia death benefit of up to MYR150,000 [A$52,800] payable to dependants of the deceased.”
The Defence Force and the police will benefit from a total of MYR400 million (A$141 million) allocated for the repair and refurbishment of family housing units.
There will be a special one-off payment of MYR500 (A$176) for lower-paid PS staff and a special payment of MYR250 (A$88) to veterans who do not otherwise receive a pension.
Mr Lim said the Government would allocate MYR10 million ($3.5 million) to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission so it could undertake risk-assessment tests at all Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
