MALAYSIA

A top Malaysian official has denied persistent reports that some Public Servants are actively working against the Government.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Liew Vui Keong (pictured) said an investigation had revealed no obvious cases.

“Most officials are true and loyal to the country and the Government as enshrined in the Public Service Regulations (Conduct and Discipline),” Datuk Liew said.

Civil Servants are neutral in carrying out their duties in accordance with the provisions of the law.”

However, he said that any Public Servant found to have violated the regulations would be subjected to an internal investigation and disciplinary action.

“Any complaints and evidence of such defiance will be forwarded to the Public Service Department to be investigated, prior to any action being taken,” Datuk Liew said during a question-and-answer session in Parliament.

He was replying to a question from Ronald Kiandee who had asked the extent of Public Servants’ non-compliance with the new Government and whether there was such a trend.

Datuk Liew said that while no one in the Public Service had been charged with non-compliance to the new administration, there were some involved in corruption, abuse of power, sexual harassment and spreading fake news using social media.
