The Head of Malaysia’s Public Service has promised there will be no disruptions to the day-to-day work of the Government following the abrupt resignation of Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin.

Chief Secretary to the Government, Mohd Zuki Ali (pictured) said cooperation between Agencies was solid and would ensure that existing programs and initiatives could continue to be implemented successfully.

“I assure you that the Civil Service has always given its full commitment in ensuring that the Government’s delivery system is not compromised,” Tan Sri Mohd said.

“The day-to-day administration will continue to be led by the Secretaries-General of the Ministries and Department heads as usual,” he said.

Tan Sri Mohd said security personnel, including the police and the armed forces, remained on standby to ensure peace and public order.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin, who announced his resignation in a televised address to the nation, will continue to perform the Prime Minister’s duties in a caretaker capacity until his successor is appointed.

With the country still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, elections are unlikely to be held in the near future.

President of the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS), Adnan Mat said Public Servants would remain neutral and continue their services without being influenced by any political ideology.

“The Civil Service is the pillar to the Government administration and needs to act professionally,” Mr Adnan said.

“Civil Servants must be wise in facing challenges and focus on risk management, and always be present in the field to ensure that services to the people are not compromised, especially during this pandemic,” he said.

Mr Adnan said CUEPACS expressed its highest appreciation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin and hoped the new Government would carry out its duties with trust and responsibility for the people and the country.
