Past students, teachers and school leaders, along with current staff, students and community members, have gathered together to celebrate Lyneham Primary School’s 60 th anniversary.

Principal, Annamaria Zuffo said the school had changed a lot since it first opened its doors in 1959 (pictured) and she was looking forward to what the future held for Lyneham in coming years.

“The changing demographics excite me as well as the development of a plan for the future of education in the area,” Ms Zuffo said.

“I look forward to continuing to develop relationships with students, staff and families and businesses through community partnerships.”

She said today’s students also reflected on some of the differences that their predecessors from the 1950s would have noticed.

“It’s so crazy!” Year 6 student, Akira Byrne said.

“They wouldn’t even know that computers existed. They would have had to look at a dictionary.”

Ms Zuffo said Lyneham Primary would continue to be a place where students loved to learn, where there was a strong culture of purposeful and creative learning and where students, staff and families were happy and engaged as a vibrant learning community.

She noted that the school’s mission statement was as relevant now as it was when it opened 60 years ago.

Lyneham Primary is a special place — we are welcoming, open and caring,” she said.

“We value our partnerships with the broader community to improve student outcomes.

“Because we believe in respectful relationships, the social justice principles of equity and fairness underpin our work with all students, staff and families.”

Ms Zuffo said the students were encouraged to seek to understand and value the perspectives of others.

“Lyneham Primary School strives to promote a culture of high expectations for our students’ academic success,” Ms Zuffo said.
