Tasmania has been named one of the world’s most attractive destinations for next year by the International Signature Travel Network, an accolade the State Government is taking pride in.

The “Where to Go in 2026” list recognises the best destinations across the globe, as determined by a network of luxury travel agents and industry advisers both globally and in the prime tourism market of the United States.

“Signature Travel Network is one of the most trusted voices in luxury travel and we are extremely proud to be the only Australian destination on the list,” Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events Jane Howlett said.

“One in six Tasmanians works in the tourism and hospitality industry, and we are working together to deliver for Tasmanians and move our state forward.”

Over the past year, a quarter of a million international visitors came to the state, representing a 6 per cent increase from last year. This has contributed an estimated $613.5 million to the Tasmanian economy.

“With many high-value international travellers seeking destinations that are authentic and unique, Tasmania certainly delivers on that promise through our stunning natural beauty, world-class food and produce, and quality tourism experiences,” Ms Howlett said.

Tourism Tasmania CEO Sarah Kingston Clark said of the island state’s recognition: “The ‘Where to Go in 2026’ list is a trusted source that will inspire many global luxury travel agents to recommend Tasmania to their high-value clients.

“The inclusion of Tasmania in this list demonstrates the importance of building strong relationships with international travel and trade partners, ensuring they understand and feel connected to our island and our tourism offerings.”

The list is curated annually and highlights destinations that stand out across the globe, particularly experiences that are compelling, immersive or meaningful.

Tasmania was also included in the Association of British Travel Agents’ “Destinations to Watch in 2025” list, while Launceston and the Tamar Valley made “Lonely Planet’s top 10 regions for 2025” list and The New York Times named the Apple Isle one of the “Best places to go in 2024”.
