The Transport Canberra and City Services Directorate has made a range of changes to public transport and city services in response to the Territory’s lockdown.

The Directorate said bus, light rail and school services, including the Special Needs Transport service, would continue to run to the regular weekday timetable, but asked Canberrans to only use public transport for essential travel.

“Please do not travel if you feel unwell,” the Directorate said.

“Use of masks in the community is now mandatory for people 12 years and over; this includes on board buses and light rail,” it said.

“Canberrans are reminded that the use of the Check In CBR app is mandatory on board all public transport services.”

The Directorate said people who did not have access to the app should travel with a registered MyWay card, or keep good travel records.

It said residential red and yellow bin collection services would now begin from 5am to ensure there was no service disruption and allow contractors to stagger shifts to maintain driver-distancing measures.

“Due to this early start, residents are reminded to put their bins out the night before,” it said.

The Directorate said there was no change to the start times of green bin collections which would remain as 7am.

It said a number of public spaces would be closed during the lockdown, including playgrounds; outdoor fitness stations; skate parks; barbecues; and dog parks.

Meanwhile, Libraries ACT has closed all library branches and extended the due dates for books currently on loan until 14 September.
