Local tourists urged to tour Perth

West Australians have been urged to become tourists in their own capital city during COVID-19 restrictions, taking advantage of accommodation which can come with attractive deals.

Managing Director of Tourism WA, Brodie Carr said there was plenty of inspiration to be seen, entertained by and experienced in Perth

“We’re showing West Aussies that one of the best vacations can be a Perth staycation,” Mr Carr said.

“We want to inspire West Aussies to rediscover everything Australia’s sunniest capital city has to offer.”

He said these would include bustling bars, restaurants, cultural spaces and new or revitalised hotels, or some of the most scenic natural beauty on the planet, including Perth’s pristine beaches and one of the world’s largest inner-city parks, Kings Park and Botanic Garden.

“We also encourage people to wander out yonder and explore Fremantle, Scarborough, Mandurah, Rockingham, Rottnest, or Perth hills and the Swan Valley,” Mr Carr said.

“Spring is the ultimate time to explore our city and its surrounding areas — whether you’re interested in walking tours of Perth’s bar scene, catching a show, or doing something adventurous, like swimming with wild dolphins.”

He said city hotels and tourism operators were working harder than ever to attract business, offering value-packed deals to locals.

“A 24-page lift out in the West Australian newspaper has been complemented by a series of outdoor billboard advertisements in and around Perth, promoting city staycations, as well as close to 60 city hotel deals featured on the Destination Perth website,” Mr Carr said.
