Amongst the many industries hardest hit by the coronavirus shut down, the arts and entertainment industries have probably suffered the most.
As a result, the creativity that is the wellspring of the arts has been directed to on-line performances and exhibitions to at least in part replace the mass gatherings that are the normal bread and butter of the industries finances.
In recent weeks I’ve brought to your attention a number of on-line fundraiser concerts to raise money to not only help fight COVID-19 but also help out struggling performers and this week I have an offering from BBC 1.
Live Lounge Allstars sees some of the music industry’s biggest stars offering their services to raise money for charities to support the poorest and most vulnerable members of society in a time of crisis.
They’ve come together to record a cover of the Foo Fighters hit Times Like These and the line-up is particularly impressive.
Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), 5 Seconds of Summer, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Paloma Faith, Rag’n’Bone Man, Ellie Goulding, Celeste… and the list goes on.
Twenty five artists, plus the skills of producer Fraser T Smith, who has worked with Stormzy and Adele.
In keeping with our times of isolation the artist’s contributions were recorded (and filmed) in their home lounge rooms, truly a world effort.
One of the interesting developments to emerge because of coronavirus is the reinvention of the mixed tape.
Remember those days?
For my daughter and myself it was a yearly ritual, she would provide me with a mixed tape of her most loved songs for the year and I would reciprocate.
In recent years mixed tapes have made a comeback.
Why don’t you start compiling your must have song list for the pandemic?
