The attractions of South Australia’s Limestone Coast region are being highlighted by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) this month, celebrating the region as its November ‘Park of the Month’.
District Ranger for the NPWS, Ross Anderson said the Limestone Coast located in the State’s South East a few hours from Adelaide, had some wonderful parks waiting to be explored.
Mr Anderson said experiences included diving in underwater caves, snorkelling and exploring the magical underwater world of Piccaninnie Ponds Conservation Park (pictured); seeing diverse birdlife at one of southern Australia’s largest freshwater lagoon systems at Bool Lagoon Game Reserve; heading underground and marvelling at the limestone formations at Tantanoola Caves Conservation Park; and visiting South Australia’s only World Heritage Site at Naracoorte Caves National Park.
“We’re excited to offer a special program of activities in November so everyone can see why our national parks are such special places,” Mr Anderson said.
He said among the activities the November Park of the Month offered included Snorkelling at Piccaninnie Ponds Conservation Park, an underground concert at Naracoorte Caves National Park and wildflower and wetland ecology walk in Penola Conservation Park.
He said it also offered Ranger-guided bird-watching walks in Bool Lagoon Game Reserve; Aboriginal Cultural Tours to look at the native plants of Bunganditj Country; bird-watching; and wetlands walk in Piccaninnie Ponds Conservation Park; as well as a working bee in Penambol Conservation Park; Geotour of Tantanoola Caves Conservation Park; and a Community Fun Run at Naracoorte Caves National Park.
