The first six months of Canberra’s light rail service have been highlighted by large numbers of passengers and positive feedback from the community
The Minister for Transport, Chris Steel said more than 15,000 people used the light rail every day and patronage was at a level that had not been expected until 2021.
“In the past six months we have recorded over 2.2 million light rail passenger trips,” Mr Steel said.
“Canberra Metro Operations conducted a customer satisfaction survey with really positive results showing that Canberrans have embraced the change to our city,” he said.
Mr Steel said that over 90 per cent of survey respondents were either satisfied or ‘very satisfied’ with the service.
He said the survey found that 45 per cent of those who used the service used it daily, with 72 per cent using it weekly.
He said around 50 per cent of participants in the survey said they used the service to get to work, school or university.
“It is great to see so many people using the light rail, and it is even better that they find it so easy, safe and comfortable,” he said.
“With work on the light rail stage 2A extension from the City to Commonwealth Park expected to begin as early as next year these figures are encouraging, as three additional stops will mean better connectivity for more Canberrans,” Mr Steel said.
