The State Library has arranged for some of its most historic and prominent stories to be brought to life in a new film partnership with film maker and distributor Screenwest.

WA Reflections — Our History Rediscovered is a capacity-building program for Western Australian filmmakers to produce short documentary films.

Filmmakers will be asked to creatively respond to diaries, journals, letters and oral histories from the State Library’s collections.

The initiative, made possible by a $60,000 grant from the State Government, will give momentum to the partnership between the State Library and Screenwest.

It is the first of its kind between the two organisations who have a similar purpose of sharing Western Australian culture and stories with the world.

Emerging and mid-career filmmakers are invited to apply.

Minister for Culture and the Arts, David Templeman said it was the purpose of both the State Library and Screenwest to share Western Australian stories and this initiative was an innovative way to achieve it.

“It is another example of the Government responding to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and I am particularly happy that our young Western Australian filmmakers are being supported during these challenging times,” Mr Templeman said.

Applications are now open via the Screenwest website at this PS News link.
