Libraries throw book at reading challenge

Libraries ACT has thrown down the gauntlet to book lovers and others across the Territory to join in its 2019 Reading Challenge.

The Agency said its in-house reading challenge was not a competition (“unless you make it one”), rather it was a way to kick-start people’s discovery of new books.

It urged people interested in the challenge to download a special bookmark from its site.

“This will help you keep track of what you read by ticking books off the list as you go,” it said.

“Don’t forget to share what you’re reading on social media. You can use #readingchallenge #whatareyoureading #CBRreads @LibrariesACT.”

It said children who wanted to take a reading challenge could download its Chatterbox Reading Challenge in A4 or A3 sizes.

It suggested a range of categories that participants might be interested in.

These included: A genre you’ve never read before; Something that makes you laugh; Has a one-word title; Features time travel or slime slip; Written under a pseudonym; Celebrating diversity; Set in an imaginary or alternate world; Crime fiction; or Food.

Other possibilities include: Something you can read in a day; Has a green cover; An eBook or eAudiobook; Set in Africa; A gothic story; Something you want to re-read; Something you regret not having read yet; Recommended by family or friend; or From or about antiquity (before the Middle Ages).

The Libraries’ special challenge bookmark can be accessed at this PS News link.
