Canberrans are to have more opportunities to lose themselves in a good book during the COVID lockdown with registrations now open for Libraries ACT’s free contactless delivery of library resources.

Minister for Transport and City Services, Chris Steel announced the relaunch of Libraries ACT’s Mystery Box and Home Library Service to help entertain Canberrans in lockdown.

“Just in time for school holidays, the popular Mystery Box and Home Library Service are back, delivering items such as books and DVDs to your front door,” Mr Steel said.

“The team at Libraries ACT has been working to bring these services back in a COVID-safe way,” he said.

“We know many Canberrans will be keen to take advantage of them while they are doing the right thing by our community and staying at home.”

Mr Steel said people could now request a Mystery Box from a list of categories that interested them and the library team would hand pick a surprise collection for delivery.

“This can include books or DVDs, across categories like mystery, thriller, romance, children’s picture books and many more,” he said.

“It’s a great way to find a new author or rediscover an old favourite.”

The Minister said Libraries ACT’s Home Library Service was back online for anyone who was not physically able to make it to a branch because of a disability, illness or limited mobility.

Mr Steel said new library members were welcome to join the Home Library Service but would need a written referral from their doctor, nurse, community worker or the Canberra Blind Society.
