Libraries ACT has invited Canberrans across the Territory to dodge the swooping magpies this Spring by coming inside and taking part in the new program of events it will be offering during October.

Director of Libraries ACT, Vanessa Little said that in the midst of Spring the new program would excite members.

“For the first time in Australia, Woden Library will be the hosts of the Sharing Stories Exhibition showcasing children’s books which were selected by the International Board on Books for Young People,” Ms Little said.

“It will be on display at Woden Library from 2 to 20 October and will feature 191 wonderful children’s books from 70 countries around the world as well as a collection of Australian children’s books from the last 60 years.”

She said that throughout October a number of themed activities and events were planned to complement the exhibition including story times, craft activities and a special event, Hop Up! Wriggle Over! And Enjoy on 20 October 20.

“Libraries provide an opportunity for children to do so much more than sit and read a book,” Ms Little said.

“Our workshops and programs are a chance to think outside the box, have new experiences and be hands on.

“We still have places available in a number of our programs including Loose Parts Play on various dates in Civic where creativity and innovation are encouraged.”

She said children could get their hands moving and design and build something special to take home.

Ms Little said October was also a month for author talks with five authors and six opportunities to hear them.

“We’re hosting a number of authors this month including the author of Can You Feel It?, Pauline Findlay; author of The Year of the Farmer, Rosalie Ham and Alice Nelson, author of The Children’s House,” Ms Little said.
