Libraries ACT has announced its most borrowed books of 2022, with crime and mystery thrillers proving popular amongst Canberra’s book lovers.
Releasing the list, Minister for City Services, Chris Steel said Richard Osmand’s crime novel, The Man Who Died Twice, was the most popular item borrowed in two categories – physical book and adult fiction.
“Popular themes library members chose to read throughout the year included crime/mystery, thriller, domestic fiction and biography/memoirs,” Mr Steel said.
“Australian authors Jane Harper and Trent Dalton featured across different categories,” he said.
“Anh Do was again a popular author for younger readers with a clean sweep of the top five titles in the junior fiction category.”
Also proving popular in Adult Fiction, Mr Steel said The Way It Is now by Garry Disher came in second sport, followed by Devotion by Hannah Kent, The Survivors by Jane Harper and The Murder Rule by Dervla McTiernan respectively.
Thanking the team at Libraries ACT for helping the community stay connected, he said “it has been a tough few years but the work and resources you provide the community are of great value.”
“Our libraries are much more than a place to borrow books,” the Minister said.
“They offer many programs to support and connect Canberrans,” he said.
“These programs range from English conversation classes for people to practice their skills to the Donut stress homework club that provides a fun and relaxed environment for students to get help – and donuts.”
