Libraries ACT has welcomed the month of May with a merry collection of events, activities and programs for visitors of all ages.

Executive Branch Manager at Libraries ACT, Vanessa Little said one of the highlights of the month was the Left Lane Outreach Theatre program, aimed at pre-schoolers.

“The programs allow kids to learn about different environments, and explore these through an interactive story with puppets,” Ms Little said.

Left Lane Outreach Theatre: Little Star will be held at various ACT libraries on 4, 5, 11 and 12 May,” she said.,

“Kids can take off into deep space with Little Star and the lost rocket ship as they explore the planets, learn all about space and find confidence along the way.”

She said that following that, Left Lane Outreach Theatre: Little Fish would be held on 18, 19, 25 and 26 May, through which the children could learn about sea creatures and environmental care of the oceans.

“May is not just for kids,” Ms Little said, “we also have the nextThe Write Stuff writing workshop with Paul Collis (pictured) on 8 May at Gungahlin.”

She said Dr Collis was a Barkindji person, born in Bourke, NSW, whose first novel, Dancing Home won the 2016 David Unaipon Award for an unpublished Indigenous writer and received the ACT Book of the Year Award in 2018.

She said the Tuggeranong Library would be the venue for the Scar Trees seminar on 6 May as part of the 2019 Canberra Tree Week celebrations.

“Presented by Adam Shipp from Yurbay, this is an opportunity to discover the cultural significance of trees to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” Ms Little said.
