Canberra Liberals have made a series of election promises ahead of the ACT Legislative Assembly election aimed at improving access to GP services, providing recreational facilities at Gungahlin and delivering affordable homes.
Leader of the Canberra Liberals, Alistair Coe said that if elected, the Liberals would help to reduce pressure on hospital emergency department waiting rooms with an 18-month pilot program to increase access to GPs for urgent but non-life-threatening medical attention.
“The GP Urgent Care Network closes the gap between local doctors and the emergency department, enabling patients to access a doctor on short notice through a universal GP directory,” Mr Coe said.
He said his party would also ensure more gap-free and after-hours GP services across Canberra through a targeted business assistance program for local GPs.
“The program will incentivise participating local GP clinics to increase bulk billing rates and opening hours by reducing rates, providing energy rebates and other forms of business assistance,” he said.
He said Liberals would work with the local community in Gungahlin to select a site, design and construct a new $12.7 million multipurpose facility for a range of sporting codes as well as school sport and community activities.
Mr Coe said his party would provide $7 million for the Multicultural and Community Centre in Gungahlin, with the capacity for around 1,500 people.
“A Canberra Liberals Government will also deliver 1,200 new affordable homes for Canberrans who are really doing it tough,” he said.
Mr Coe said Canberra Liberals would offer a $100 million line of credit to the ACT’s Community Housing Providers to deliver 1,200 new affordable homes over four years.
