The ACT recorded 22 new COVID-19 cases and conducted more than 8,000 tests in the 24 hours to 8pm on Tuesday (17 August), taking the total number of active cases in Canberra to 67 (accurate as of 12pm, 18 August).

Chief Minister, Andrew Barr said 22 of the new cases could be linked to existing cases and 63 of the 67 cases had now been linked.

Mr Barr said three more Canberra schools were added to the list of close contact exposure sites, including St Thomas Aquinas Primary School in Charnwood; UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra in Belconnen; and Harrison School, both primary and secondary campuses, in Gungahlin.

He said it was essential for people to keep in contact with each other throughout the lockdown.

“We will get through this, but we need to look after each other,” Mr Barr said.

“Stay at home, but do keep in touch with family and friends online or through the telephone,” he said.

Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerryn Coleman said only four of the Territory’s 67 cases remained under investigation and, while she was happy that 63 of the cases had confirmed linkages, the four unlinked cases included the case that sent the ACT into lockdown.

The Territory’s COVID-19 Media Service encouraged Canberrans to remain vigilant and regularly check its website for additional exposure locations.
