The Office of the Commissioner for Victims of Crime put the spotlight on busting scams and tackling family violence during Law W, which ends on Friday.
Early in the week, the Office ran two free community sessions. The first aimed to help people who had fallen victim to scams, or wanted to know more about how to identify and avoid them.
The Commissioner, Kati Kraszlan (pictured) said the second outlined the new legal tool kit of measures which could be used to fight family violence.
Events still to come include a morning tea today (Thursday) at which the theme is From Distraction to Clarity — Mindful Working.
The Law Week Art Competition will be held in the afternoon, with the theme The Law in our Everyday Lives.
Today will also feature an online webinar presented by a criminal lawyer from Legal Aid WA, and based on the highly successful R U Legal? program.
The presenter will explore the laws that affect young people, particularly in relation to sexting, image-based abuse, cyber bullying, assaults and sex and consent, using real life examples to demonstrate legal consequences.
They will also cover the age of criminal responsibility in WA and the ways that young people often get involved with the criminal justice system.
The webinar is suitable for high school students, teachers, parents and community workers.
Friday will see a range of interesting events as well, the highlight being the Law Week Cocktail Party at which will be celebrated the Lawyer of the Year Awards.
