Access Canberra has announced that the Territory’s land titles can now be searched online.
Acting Chief Operating Officer of Access Canberra, Alison Purvis said conveyancing solicitors and members of the public would find it easier to perform land title searches with the new system.
“The new ACT Land Information System [ACTLIS] has modernised land searches so that buyers and sellers of property — or their solicitors and conveyancers — are able to complete all their searches online rather than emailing requests or attending a shopfront,” Ms Purvis said.
“This is good news for our community, who completed 123,368 land title searches in 2017.”
She said land title information from the late 1980s onwards was available for immediate download once purchased using a credit or debit card, while earlier land title information would be sent electronically within 24 hours of an online request being made.
“Another benefit of the new land titles system is that it allows users to search by street address,” Ms Purvis said.
“Previously, only parcel number and volume folio number searches were possible.”
She said users now have the choice of using three different search fields.
“Searches can also be done on mobile phones and tablets and all information purchased is provided as a pdf download or email,” Ms Purvis said.
She said a fee of either $22 or $29 currently applied to land title searches, and there had been no fee increase to customers in transitioning to the new system.
The new online system, including video tutorials on how to use it, can be accessed on the ACTLIS website at this PS News link.
