KUWAIT
Kuwaiti Public Servants have been ordered to present their education qualifications for inspection in the wake of charges of mass forgeries.
The Gulf State has been rocked by allegations that may involve officials at the highest level.
The Government announced that it had formed a committee led by the Higher Education Ministry to examine certificates of both national and expatriate PS employees.
The Ministry said measures would be taken against anyone proved to have obtained a job through fake educational qualifications.
Reports said the committee would also comprise representatives from the Civil Service Department and the Legislation Department, a judicial authority.
The Government said the Cabinet had confirmed that legal action would be taken against forgers of educational certificates.
“After the investigations have been completed, those found to have forged documents will be put on trial,” the Government said.
It vowed to bring all wrongdoers, whatever their positions, to justice.
The scandal was uncovered after the Higher Education Ministry said it had discovered an unspecified number of forged university degrees involving a foreign worker at the Ministry.
Minister for Higher Education, Hamed Al Azami said his officials had filed reports to the Public Prosecutor over 40 suspected bogus diplomas.
“The initial inspection led to the discovery of a number of forged diplomas, which called for an extra effort with the Interior Ministry to find out who is behind this problem,” Mr Al Azami said.
