For the first time in a decade, coloured lights have been installed that will illuminate the iconic Fraser Avenue trees in Kings Park.
Executive Director of the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA), Alan Barrett said the lights had undergone a testing period, but a date for a ceremonial switch-on had not been set.
“This project was possible through the COVID-19 recovery stimulus package given to the Authority,” Mr Barrett said.
“One of the BGPA’s strategic priorities is to create truly local experiences and this new lighting system will deliver a fantastic experience along beautiful Kings Park Fraser Avenue trees.”
He said the spectacular scene would be visible at night across Perth and would delight visitors and residents alike.
“The system has a multi-colour and display pattern function that will add a new element to the very texture of Perth City,” Mr Barrett said.
“Kings Park belongs to the people of Western Australia and it is important that we build facilities and experiences that appeal to the broader general public.”
Executive Director asked people to imagine how this would help celebrate or commemorate any important occasions by colour-coordinating Kings Park.
“The system is flexible in how it operates with virtually unlimited colours and combinations matched with a multitude of display patterns,” he said.
“It uses the latest lighting technology that has a 50 per cent reduced energy consumption with three times the life expectancy,” Mr Barrett said.
