Libraries ACT is to host an action-packed weekend of activities for kids and teens for the Kids Lit Festival this weekend (25 and 26 June).

Announcing its program of events, the Libraries said children’s authors and illustrators would be hosting eight free workshops at its Woden and Gungahlin branches.

“Come down to the Library for an action packed weekend with activities for kids of all ages,” Libraries ACT said.

“We’ve got reading, writing, rhyming, drawing, music, dancing and mystery solving for kids of all ages.”

It said that on Saturday (25 June) children’s author, Catherine Meatheringham would host story time sessions filled with music and movement, while children’s author, Amelia McInerney would read from some of her raucously funny, rhyming picture books.

Libraries ACT said Ms Meatheringham’s story time session would give kids the opportunity to join the possum orchestra to make lots of musical sounds with her book My Possum Plays the Drums, and travel around the world, meeting noisy dogs in the book All Dogs Bark.

For older kids, it said James Knight would run a writing workshop for 10- to 13-year-olds.

“James is known for focusing on participants telling THEIR STORY – even kids who are reluctant writers or who have social or learning difficulties,” it said.

Libraries ACT said children could also learn how to create their own “Fantabulously Fabulous Journal” with the illustrator of the popular Ella Diaries series, Danielle McDonald.
