The Department of Justice has celebrated National Reconciliation Week by recognising staff who have made a significant contribution to advancing reconciliation.
Personnel came from around the State to be part of the awards event with those who couldn’t make it sharing the ceremony via video link.
Director General of the Department, Adam Tomison said 80 per cent of its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) deliverables were on track to be completed by July.
“We’re in the process of developing a RAP for 2022 to 2024.” Dr Tomison said.
“We’ll build on our success, as evidenced by all those nominated for these inaugural awards, and will work to do even better,” he said.
Those awarded were as follows.
Programs and Projects: Office of Criminal Injuries Compensation, and the Cultural Immersion Team at West Kimberley Regional Prison.
Partnerships: Legal Assistance Branch and Grants Team. Commended: Mallee Rehabilitation Centre at Casuarina Prison.
Teams: Kununurra Adult Community Corrections. Commended: Procurement and Contract Services Team.
Individuals: George Kickett, Maddington Community Corrections Officer, for a long and distinguished career with the Department. Commended: Sean Wood, Judicial Support Officer at Perth Children’s Court, for promoting culturally safe practices to address the needs of Aboriginal people.
Executive Director, Court and Tribunal Services, Jo Stampalia collected the award on Mr Wood’s behalf.
