The Jordanian Government’s decision to abolish the Civil Service Bureau has run into opposition in Parliament, with Deputy, Bilal Al-Momani saying it was a message from the Government that it was incapable of providing employment.
“The timing of the decision is entirely inappropriate, given the huge numbers of unemployed individuals. The Civil Service Bureau is responsible for public sector employment and it is better to have it, despite the criticisms and observations directed at it,” Mr Al-Momani said.
“Its presence achieves fairness, while the abolition of the Bureau will open the door to changes in hiring processes that do not benefit Jordanian citizens.”
Noting that many professions had become dominated by non-Jordanians, he said various Government approaches towards regulating labour in the private sector had failed and he did not want to see this mirrored in the Public Service.
