The Hands Across Canberra annual lunch shows this generous city at its best.
Yes, we are generous and we also recognise – from the formidable list of recipients for the funding by this wonderful organisation – there is so much more to do.
Hands Across Canberra works with a mindset of dignity, determination and inclusion.
And again it was a sell-out gathering at Gandel Hall at the National Gallery of Australia, with special guests who told of their experience as recipients of Hands Across Canberra funding.
It reminds me so much of the early days of this great city.
Nana would cart us along to all manner of fundraisers.
She, too, knew the need and brought many into her sphere of support, with many a tale to tell in my more formative years.
We learn by example. We gather for many fundraising events and give what we can. But Hands Across Canberra has a formula that is an example to all and this annual lunch again showed how a little becomes a lot when we all become involved.
There will be new Hands Across Canberra initiatives to launch on the next Canberra Day and a partnership with the Chief Minister’s Charitable Fund shows that the organisation is reaping the benefits of partnering with long established organisations and innovative new ones.
