Based on the Jesse Stone novels by Robert B. Parker, No Remorse is the sixth in a series of nine television films adapted from Parker’s Jesse Stone novels. The 2010 American crime drama was filmed on location in Nova Scotia.
In the title role, Selleck (Blue Bloods, Magnum, P.I.) is the suffering and persistent former police chief in the small town of Paradise, Massachusetts. He admirably plays the character of Stone, who has fallen on hard times.
While in self-imposed seclusion following his suspension from the Paradise Police Force, a mysterious series of related murders in nearby Boston draws Stone back into the fold. Before long, he’s following a crooked path that leads him to the city’s most notorious crime boss, Gino Fish (William Sadler).
The film begins with the murder of a young man at night as he opens his car door in a parking garage. Jesse Stone, after his suspension as chief of police, has sunk into seclusion and alcoholism. He has been out of touch with everyone after being ordered not to communicate with his former subordinates while on suspension.
Eventually his colleague Rose (Gammon), an officer, becomes concerned and asks Stone’s friend Captain Healy, the State Police Homicide Commander, to check in on him.
After a second murder in a parking garage, Healy (Stephen McHattie) asks Jesse to work as a private consultant to the Boston Police Department on the investigation.
It’s worthy recognition when the author gives accolades. Parker has said he found the Jesse Stone movies were the most accurate television adaptations of his novels. On his blog, he wrote: “Tom nails the character”.
