NSW student wins National anti-bullying poster competition
A public-school student from NSW’s north coast has won a national anti-bullying poster competition.
Isabella Sinanovski from Lennox Head Public School won the Interrelate 2019 competition and joined all 19 finalists at Government House in Sydney where the winner was announced.
Hosting the event, the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Margaret Beazley said the competition encouraged young people to put their voice behind stopping student bullying.
She said the Isabella’s entry was chosen from 38,000 from across the country, all focusing on the theme’Be Kind, Lend a Hand’.
“Isabella’s poster highlighted the importance of being an upstander and supporting people who are being bullied,” Justice Beazley said.
She said the NSW anti bullying website described being an ‘upstander’ as someone who offered support to a person being bullied.
It said a group of students standing up to bullying together helped everyone to stay safe.
“Be someone that counts and go and help [when you see bullying],” Isabella said.
“We’re all beautiful in our own ways, and it’s OK to be different and to be yourself. Kindness comes first.”
