The Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq has called on the international community to support the region in its salary dispute with the Federal Government in Baghdad.
In a statement following a Cabinet meeting in the Kurdish capital of Erbil, the KRG said its Public Servants had not received any pay for the past two months “due to the Federal Government’s failure to allocate the KRG’s share of the Budget”.
The statement said the KRG should have received and agreed 1.37 trillion dinars ($A1.6 billion) a month from the Federal Budget. However, the Iraqi Government had allocated only 500 billion dinars ($A594 million) per month, with no funds allocated for salaries in July and August.
The KRG called on the Iraqi Government to reconsider its decision and stressed the urgent need for 906 billion dinars ($A1 billion) to cover the salaries of Public Servants.
