Department of Agriculture secretary Adam Fennessy has started as the new president of IPAA ACT, a branch of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (IPAA).
IPAA ACT chief executive officer Kate Driver announced the new appointment to the apolitical, member-based body promoting excellence in public service.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Adam as our new president,” she said.
“His depth of experience and passion for public service will be invaluable as we continue to grow and evolve.”
Mr Fennessy has more than 25 years of public sector experience at state and federal levels.
He has previously served as the secretary of two Victorian state government departments and as the Victorian Public Sector Commissioner.
Prior to his appointment as secretary of the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Mr Fennessy was the dean and CEO of the Australia New Zealand School of Government.
An IPAA National Fellow, he has been actively involved in IPAA Victoria as board member and a supporter of work in IPAA Queensland.
Mr Fennessy replaces Attorney-General’s Department secretary Katherine Jones, who completed her term as IPAA ACT president.
Ms Driver said IPAA ACT was “deeply grateful to Ms Jones for her exceptional leadership” as president since May 2022.
A driving force in strengthening IPAA ACT’s engagement with the public sector and championing innovation and collaboration across the Australian Public Service, Ms Jones helped rebuild the institute following COVID pandemic disruptions.
“Katherine has been a generous and visionary leader, and we thank her for her unwavering commitment and outstanding contribution to IPAA ACT,” Ms Driver said.
“I’m particularly grateful for Katherine’s advocacy of the role of IPAA ACT across the senior leaders of the ACT and Commonwealth public sectors, and her wise advice.
“Katherine’s leadership of the recent strategic planning process sets us up for future success.”
