The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate has called for public input into a review of the Territory’s planning system.

The Directorate said the review which is currently underway built on the delivery of the refreshed ACT Planning Strategy in 2018.

“We want to know what is most important to consider when assessing new developments in your area,” the Directorate said.

“[The review] looks at how we can identify and retain Canberra’s best attributes while also encouraging innovation in how we plan our new homes, town centres and suburbs.”

“Canberra’s population is growing by approximately 8,000 per year as more people choose to live here,” the Directorate said.

“With this growth, 100,000 new homes will need to be built in the next 25 years, with 70 per cent in existing urban areas.”

It said the review was aimed at simplifying the planning system and providing certainty to community and industry about what could be developed.

It is considering character, context and design as key elements of the system and ways in which to provide for innovative development outcomes.

More information on the review and details on how to make a submission can be accessed on the YourSay website at this PS News link.
