The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Cities and Regional Development has released a discussion paper on the design of the National Freight Data Hub.
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Michael McCormack said access to better data would mean a more productive and resilient freight sector for Australia.
Mr McCormack said the Department planned to design a hub in collaboration with industry, State and Territory Governments and other key stakeholders.
“Industry told us it wanted the hub and the Government has backed it with a $5.2 million commitment,” Mr McCormack said.
“I encourage all those with an interest to invest the effort to engage closely with my Department and participate in the submission process and follow up workshops, to ensure the design meets the needs of the freight industry.”
He said a well-designed hub would improve access to and sharing of valuable freight location and performance data.
Assistant Minister for Road Safety and Freight Transport, Scott Buchholz said enhanced access to freight data helped industry, Governments and others streamline day-to-day freight operations, make better investment decisions and evaluate the performance of Australia’s freight system.
Submissions to the discussion paper close on 6 December.
