Balgownie Estate’s Yarra Valley vineyards were planted in 2002 to chardonnay and pinot noir, the two varieties we believe are best suited to the cool climate region.
The Yarra Valley’s cool climate is ideal for these Burgundian varieties, producing grapes with intensity and balance and a definite sense of place.
It is especially pleasing that the Pinot Noir vineyard has matured sufficiently since it’s planting in 2002 that we were able to offer an Estate Pinot Noir for the first time in 2013. With careful management in the vineyard and maintaining the vine yields at a low level the 2013 Estate Pinot Noir has a lovely intensity and depth of flavour.
