Access Canberra is encouraging cafes, restaurants, and bars to trial outdoor dining without permit fees.
Minster for Business, Tara Cheyne said venues with existing outdoor dining areas may also be able to expand by utilising public space or sharing space with neighbouring businesses.
Ms Cheyne said to support tourism and hospitality industries, the Territory had introduced a free 12-month trial for outdoor dining permits on 1 February this year.
“Forty-three businesses across the ACT have already taken advantage,” Ms Cheyne said.
“We have also waived all existing outdoor dining permit fees for businesses for 2020-2021,” she said.
Ms Cheyne said Access Canberra’s Business Liaison Team was available to help businesses by discussing ideas and offering suggestions to make the running of a business easier and simpler.
“The tourism and hospitality industries are some of our biggest employers,” the Minister said.
“With the onset of the warmer weather, we’re encouraging businesses to get in touch with the Business Liaison Team to explore opportunities for free or expanded outdoor dining,” she said.
Ms Cheyne said businesses interested in learning more about expanding or trialling outdoor dining areas could contact Access Canberra’s Business Liaison Team on 6205 4400 or by email at [email protected].
